A German Business Location at Its Best

Saxony has many pictures which tell many tales and create lots of history: The heart of “Silicon Saxony,” Europe’s largest microelectronics / ICT cluster, beats in Dresden. Between Leipzig and Dresden, researchers and entrepreneurs are working hand-in-hand in the life sciences and environmental technology sectors. The Chemnitz-Zwickau region is the traditional powerhouse of Saxony’s economy: Whether it be mechanical engineering or more than 100 years of “Autoland Saxony” – strong and highly efficient industries have evolved from smart ideas and intelligent solutions. Saxony‘s innovative spirit focuses on such topics as, for example, automation technology / robotics, artificial intelligence, smart sensor technology, highly automated driving, and energy storage technologies.

SAXONY! – The Cradle of German Machine Construction

Saxony is considered to be the cradle of German machine construction. For about 200 years now, such globally coveted mechanical engineering products as, for example, textile, tool, and printing machines have been coming from Saxony. With about 45,000 employees in approximately 1,000 firms, mechanical engineering is one of the most important industrial branches in Saxony. Such globally active enterprises as NILES-SIMMONS-HEGENSCHEIDT have their corporate headquarters in Saxony; other companies such as Starrag or Koenig & Bauer pursue their international business activities from their vibrant production sites located here.

The mostly small and medium-sized enterprises of Saxony’s machine construction industry score points in international competition primarily with their high innovative power. They possess extensive expertise in the production, automation, and process engineering sectors.

SAXONY! – Excels as a Center for Robotics

Due to its extensive microelectronics, machine construction, and software competences, Saxony has also strong expertise in robotics. This is not only assured by university spin-offs and robotics start-ups, but also by well-established automation companies. Such companies as Wandelbots, XENON, Fabmatics, or such R&D institutes as the Fraunhofer IWU or the CETI at TU Dresden are developing widely acclaimed innovations. Several thousand people in numerous companies and institutes in Saxony are already working on robotics projects which generate millions in sales with robot software, robot-based automation technology, and the like. Chemnitz, the heart of Saxony’s machine construction, contributes its production technology expertise and is a center of excellence for so-called “smart systems.” Dresden as the core of “Silicon Saxony” offers unique opportunities for the production of software as well as high-reliability chips for innovative robots.
